Training Public Health Professionals for Emergency Response

April 23 | 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm EDT

To perform effectively, our workforce must not only understand the technical aspects of environmental health but also be adept at working within the emergency response system. There exists a significant opportunity for our environmental public health workforce to acquire specialized emergency response training. This enhancement would strengthen their ability to respond effectively during crises.

With the increasing frequency and intensity of disasters, it is more important than ever for the workforce to receive proper training.

A panel of experienced responders and trainers will provide valuable information on current training opportunities, in-service training resources, and innovative methods to integrate emergency response into daily program activities, including:

  • Tim Hatch, MPA, REHS, District Administrator at Alabama Department of Public Health
  • Melissa Hawthorne, MBA, REHS/RS, Deputy Director at City of El Paso Public Health
  • Gregory McKnight II, REHS, Investigator and Supervisor at Seattle & King County Public Health Environmental Health Division
  • CAPT Mark Miller, US Public Health Service (Retired) – Miller Consulting and Educational Services
  • Gail Obeso, REHS, MEP, HMS, HazMat/Counterterrorism Coordinator, San Bernardino County Fire (Retired)

By attending this seminar, you will be able to:

  • Understand the critical roles and responsibilities of environmental public health professionals during emergency response and recovery.
  • Assess the effectiveness of current training programs and identify areas for improvement to enhance emergency preparedness within your organization.
  • Identify key training opportunities and resources available for enhancing emergency preparedness across your organization.

Join us to build sustainable response capacity and gain resilience through readiness!
