SUMMARY:A Roadmap to Building a Prepared\, Responsive\, & Resilient Environmental Public Health Program
DESCRIPTION:Over the past decade\, the United States has endured more than 300 major disasters—hurricanes contaminating drinking water\, wildfires fueling toxic air emergencies\, floods overwhelming wastewater systems\, and storms turning debris into widespread public health threats. The cost of being unprepared is too high. \nEvery disaster tells the same story: communities with strong preparedness assessments and coordinated planning recover faster\, safeguard public health more effectively\, and reduce both human and financial losses. This seminar offers a proven framework to ensure your organization is ready when it matters most. \nThis Changes Everything.\nJoin us for an in-depth exploration of the National Environmental Health Association’s newly released Environmental Public Health Emergency Response Capability Assessment Guide. Our experts will walk you through the 15 Core Functions of the EPH Emergency Preparedness and Response Capability Framework and provide step-by-step guidance for conducting your own capability assessment. \nThe Bottom Line:\nThis tool equips environmental public health programs with a systematic method to identify vulnerabilities before disaster strikes—your roadmap to becoming more prepared\, more responsive\, and more resilient. \nBy attending\, you will learn to: \n\nInterpret and apply the 15 Core Functions within the EPH Emergency Preparedness and Response Capability Framework.\nConduct and utilize the EPH Emergency Response Capability Assessment effectively.\nStrengthen public health protection through informed\, proactive preparedness planning.

SUMMARY:Bed Bugs Uncovered: Identifying\, Preventing\, and Protecting
DESCRIPTION:Bed bugs can infest a wide range of environments—from homes and hotels to public facilities—creating unique challenges for prevention and control. In this webinar\, Dr. Aaron Ashbrook\, Assistant Professor of Urban/Peri-Urban Entomology at Louisiana State University\, will examine how bed bugs are introduced and persist in different settings\, and how their biology influences their survival and spread. Participants will also learn practical strategies to protect themselves during inspections\, recognize key signs of infestation\, and apply leading practices for early detection and response. The discussion will also explore common misconceptions about bed bug behavior and control\, helping participants distinguish between effective and ineffective management approaches. Attendees will come away with actionable insights to improve monitoring protocols\, reduce the risk of spread\, and enhance overall program effectiveness.

SUMMARY:Vector-Borne Outbreaks: Emergency Prep Tabletop
DESCRIPTION:Mapping Community Outbreaks of Four Major Mosquito Viruses:\nHow Ready Are You? Your community? \nEmergency preparedness comes in many forms; however\, when it comes to outbreaks of Dengue Fever\, Eastern Equine Encephalitis\, or Chikungunya\, the reaction by a community needs to be more holistic – are you ready? West Nile virus has been present in TX for many years; however\, as it circulates\, it is important to consider how your community is handling those mosquitoes in your high-risk areas. How ready are you and your community for the next invasive disease? \nThis one-day tabletop exercise will educate attendees about arboviral diseases and discuss the process for involving state and regional stakeholders should a coordinated response to an outbreak be needed. Scenarios will focus on potential arboviral disease outbreaks specific to the North Texas region. \nThis class will include morning lectures\, a boxed lunch\, and an afternoon session of small-group exercises on specific outbreak cases based on AMCA and TMCA guidance. The three afternoon sessions will have class participants discuss and walk through Discovery\, Investigation\, and Response with a final discussion with concluding thoughts at the end of the program. \nThis workshop is open to anyone interested in vector-borne diseases\, emergency preparedness\, One Health initiatives\, and environmental health specialists in all settings. \nRegistration is required. Lunch is provided.

SUMMARY:Uninvited Tenants: Understanding Urban Rodent Behavior Through the Lens of Their World Webinar
DESCRIPTION:This presentation examines the biology and behaviour of the three dominant commensal rodent species in urban environments\, Mus musculus\, Rattus rattus\, and Rattus norvegicus\, through the world each species inhabits. Using video-recorded field observations\, the talk explores how species-specific biology\, neophobia\, and route fidelity drive predictable patterns of pest control equipment detection\, avoidance\, and habituation. The central argument is that equipment avoidance is not random\, it is rooted in rodent biology\, and that understanding it leads to more informed placement\, selection\, and management strategy. \n  \nKurtis Brown\, Associate Certified Entomologist\, and Training Manager for Orkin Canada is the featured speaker. \n  \nThis free webinar is part of the Gulf South VECTOR Center for Training\, Outreach and Resources Webinar Series. Registration is required.

SUMMARY:Texas Mosquito Control Association Spring Workshop
DESCRIPTION:The Texas Mosquito Control Association (TMCA) Spring Workshop is an annual in-person training event designed for professionals and stakeholders involved in vector control\, public health\, and mosquito management throughout Texas. Building on the success of previous workshops\, including the 2025 spring session in San Antonio Botanical Gardens that offered a full day of Integrated Mosquito Management training with Texas Department of Agriculture (TDA) Continuing Education Units (CEUs) available\, the 2026 Spring Workshop continues this tradition of hands-on education and professional development. \nThe workshop will take place at The Emily Morgan Hotel in San Antonio. Attendees can earn up to 5 TDA CEUs free for TMCA members or for a $100 fee for non-members\, fostering professional growth and certification maintenance. \nIn addition to the educational presentations\, the workshop serves as a networking hub for vector control professionals from across the state. Participants have historically benefited from interaction with industry experts\, access to the latest control strategies\, and opportunities to exchange ideas with peers. The event also offers hotel accommodations at a special TMCA group rate to make planning convenient for out-of-town attendees. \nWhether you’re a seasoned mosquito control technician\, a public health official\, or new to the field\, the TMCA Spring Workshop provides essential training and community connection to enhance mosquito management efforts in Texas.
