SUMMARY:LSART VMRC - Household Pet Evacuation and Pet Shelter Training
DESCRIPTION:4-hour Pet Evacuation Training Course (4CE)\nThis section covers guidelines for setting up and operating a pet registration and loading station at a Parish Pickup Point (PPP) or other designated evacuation area in a community. This protocol was designed to assist with the evacuation of household pets belonging to residents without means of private evacuation transportation. In Louisiana\, these residents are designated as Critical Transportation Needs (CTN) population. The goal of this course is to provide the user with a standardized guideline for safe and efficient household pet evacuation\, while guaranteeing that all pets are properly identified\, registered\, and linked to their owners\, thus ensuring that they can be reunited if separated. \n4-hour Pet Shelter Training Course (4CE)\nThis section covers guidelines for setting up and operating a temporary pet emergency shelter in a community. This protocol was designed to assist with the sheltering of household pets belonging to Louisiana residents\, recognizing that not all shelters can be co-located or pet-friendly. The goal of this course is to provide the user with a standardized guideline for safe and efficient household pet shelter operation\, while guaranteeing that all pets are properly identified\, registered\, and linked to their owners\, thus ensuring that they can be reunited if separated. Shelter operators are encouraged to make every effort to prevent separation of pets from their owners and preserve the strength of the human-animal bond. Topics covered include Louisiana’s Pet Plan including which agencies have authority for animals during a\ndisaster\, common zoonotic and vector borne diseases of concern during disasters and how to mitigate these diseases and some post disaster operations to assist in recovery such as assessments\, feed in place as well as how to register as part of an emergency volunteer response corps. \nTimes:\n8:00 am – 12:00 pm Pet Evacuation\n1:00 pm – 5:00 pm Pet Sheltering\n4CE will be available for each course.
